The Key Facts
What the Couples Protocol looks like in practice, in one place. Every fact here is current as of September 2026.
| What it is | Legal psilocybin-assisted therapy for two people at once, offered under Colorado’s Natural Medicine Health Act. You prepare together and one-on-one, journey side by side on the same day in the same room, and integrate together and one-on-one, with a licensed therapist present the entire time. |
|---|---|
| Who it is for | Partners, married or not, and any two people with a real bond: close friends, a parent and an adult child, siblings. Both of you need to want this for yourselves; a shared journey works when each person arrives with their own intention. |
| Where | Numia Healing Center, 75 S Madison St, Suite 201, in central Denver, a state-licensed healing center (license NMHC-00022) that feels like a calm, beautiful home. More about the center. |
| Who guides you | A licensed therapist with training in couples and relational work, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, in Numia’s clinical facilitator therapist model: therapists who also hold Colorado’s clinical facilitator license (NMCF). One therapist holds the two of you through preparation, the journey, and integration. |
| Format | A free 15-minute consultation, a fit call with your therapist, a private screening for each of you, two one-hour preparation sessions (one together, one on your own), one journey day of five to eight hours side by side, and two one-hour integration sessions (one together, one on your own). |
| Price | $6,000 per couple, all sessions and medicine included; two private protocols would be $7,600. Everything is billed before your journey and there is nothing to pay on the day. Travel to Denver is not included. See full pricing. |
| Age | 21 and older, as Colorado law requires. |
| Timing | Scheduled around your lives, usually within a few weeks of your fit call. A couples retreat in our private foothills home is in the works; you can join the waitlist on our retreats page. |
Why a Shared Journey
Carolina Correa, who founded Numia, spent years as a couples therapist before she ever sat with the medicine. She came to deeply respect that work; it is powerful, meaningful, and it has carried many couples through hard seasons. At the same time, she kept meeting the same wall: two people who loved each other, who had done the talking, and who could not quite reach the deeper layer where the pattern between them lived.
A shared psilocybin journey is a gentle way through to that layer. Each of you has your own experience, your own dose, and your own inner world to explore, and you do it in the same room, on the same day, with a therapist who has prepared with both of you. The medicine is part of something larger: preparation together and on your own, a journey day held with care, and integration together and on your own, so that what surfaced becomes something you can work with as a pair and something you carry for yourself.
The same protocol holds two close friends, a parent and an adult child, or siblings; the bond is what matters, and the shape of the days is the same. Some pairs are better served by private sessions for one or both people, and we will say so on the call. If the relationship is in crisis, or one of you is being brought along, we will help you find a better next step, together or separately.
Who guides couples at Numia
Clinical Facilitator Therapists Trained in Couples Work
Couples work asks for a particular kind of therapist: someone trained to hold two inner worlds at once, and the relationship between them. Our couples protocols are led by licensed therapists with training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Gottman Method, in Numia’s clinical facilitator therapist model, the tier of Colorado’s license the state reserves for clinicians licensed to diagnose and treat. One therapist is in the room with the two of you, from the first session to the last.
- Carolina Correa, MFT-C, Founder and Clinical Director. Couples and relationships have been the center of her practice since before Numia; EFT, Gottman Method, Parts Work, and mindfulness.
- Kathleen Zachary, MSW, LCSW, NMCF, Co-Owner and Director of Research. Relational at her core; EFT, Gottman Method, somatic and attachment-focused work, and couples and family dynamics.

How the Couples Protocol unfolds
- A 15-minute consultation. One of you or both, a relaxed conversation about what is drawing you here and whether a shared journey is the right container. Nothing to decide on the call.
- A fit call with your therapist. A deeper conversation, together, with the therapist chosen for you based on your goals and your history as a couple.
- Private screening, each of you. Your own health history and medications, reviewed individually by our clinical team, as Colorado’s rules require. What you share in your screening stays between you and the clinical team.
- Two preparation sessions, one together and one on your own. One-hour sessions with your therapist: together, to set a shared intention and agree on how the day will be held; on your own, to name what you are carrying into the room that is yours alone. How we prepare together.
- Journey day, side by side. Five to eight hours in a private room at the center, each with your own space and your own dose, one therapist in the room with both of you the entire time. You may go inward or reach for each other; both are welcome.
- Two integration sessions, one together and one on your own. The first usually the day after, the second about two weeks later. This is where the real work happens, where what surfaced becomes something you can carry into daily life, as a pair and as yourself.
Numia opened in September 2025, founded by therapist Carolina Correa. Since then our therapists have guided over 200 legal psilocybin sessions in Denver, in private sessions, couples protocols, and small groups. Read the fuller picture of psilocybin therapy in Denver, or see complete pricing.
Couples Protocol or Private Sessions?
Both paths are guided by the same licensed therapists at the same licensed center. The difference is whether you do this work side by side or on your own. Here is how they compare, so you can choose with clear eyes.
| Couples Protocol | Private Sessions | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it suits | Partners, close friends, a parent and adult child, or siblings who both want this for themselves, who are willing to be seen by each other in a vulnerable state, and who want what surfaces to be worked with together. | Anyone who wants the whole arc built around them, who carries a complex history, or who would rather do this work privately, including one partner while the other waits. |
| The journey itself | Side by side in one private room, on the same day, each with your own space and your own dose, with one therapist present for both of you throughout. | One-on-one with your therapist in a private journey room, for as long as the medicine takes. |
| Preparation and integration | A private screening for each of you, then two one-hour preparation sessions and two one-hour integration sessions, one of each together and one of each on your own, all with the same therapist. | Two one-hour preparation sessions and two one-hour integration sessions, all with the same therapist. |
| Intentions | Your own intention, and one you hold as a pair. | Your own intention. |
| Price | $6,000 per couple, all sessions and medicine included. | $3,800 per person, all sessions and medicine included. |
| Timing | Scheduled around your lives, usually within a few weeks of your fit call. | Scheduled around your life, usually within a few weeks of your fit call. |
How a Shared Journey Stays Safe
Two people in one room asks more of the person holding it. These are the questions we would ask any provider offering couples psilocybin therapy in Colorado, and how we answer them ourselves.
- Is each partner screened on their own?Colorado requires a safety screening for every participant. Ask whether a clinician reviews each person’s history and medications separately. At Numia: each of you completes a private screening, reviewed individually by our clinical team, before a date is confirmed.
- Does each of us consent on our own?A session with more than one participant requires each person’s individual informed consent under state rules, including consent to any physical touch. At Numia: consent is individual and unhurried, and either of you can choose private sessions instead at any point before the day.
- Who is in the room, and are they licensed?Ask whether the person guiding you is a licensed therapist, and whether they hold Colorado’s facilitator license. Ask for the license numbers. At Numia: one licensed therapist is with you both from the first moment to the last, and our couples work is led by therapists trained in EFT and the Gottman Method.
- What if one of us needs a quieter space?Ask how the room is arranged and what happens if one of you needs one-on-one attention during the journey. At Numia: each of you has your own space in the same room, and your therapist plans the day with you in your shared and individual preparation sessions, so that neither of you is ever without support.
- Is a couples session legal in Colorado?Yes, within the regulated program. The state’s rules treat any session with more than one participant as a group administration session, allowed at a licensed healing center with individual consent and no more than four participants per facilitator. At Numia: healing center license NMHC-00022, our own center in central Denver.
- What comes after?Ask whether integration is a single call or a real process, and whether it includes both of you.At Numia: two integration sessions, one together and one on your own, monthly integration circles you are welcome in afterward, and the option to continue privately with one of our therapists or to coordinate with your own.
What Colorado’s Rules Say About Couples
Under the Natural Medicine Health Act, adults 21 and older may receive psilocybin services from a state-licensed facilitator at a licensed healing center. The rules in 4 CCR 755-1 do not name couples specifically; a session for two partners falls under Rule 6.17(G), which allows group administration sessions, requires each participant to consent to the group individually, and caps the group at four participants per facilitator. Rule 6.16 requires a safety screening and at least one preparation session conducted individually with each participant, which is why each of you has a private screening and your own preparation session as well as one together. Rule 6.19 allows integration sessions to be held jointly when each person has agreed to it, which is why one of your integration sessions is together and one is your own.
Where a shared journey fits: for two people with straightforward histories who each want this for themselves and want to work with what surfaces together. Where private sessions fit: for a partner carrying trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, or a complicated medical picture, and for anyone who would rather do this work alone first. Colorado law as of September 2026; we update this page as the rules change. Read more in Is psilocybin therapy legal in Colorado?, Is psilocybin therapy safe? and Psychedelics and intimacy.

Common Questions
Is couples psilocybin therapy legal in Colorado?
Yes, within the state’s regulated program. Colorado’s rules treat a session for two partners as a group administration session, which is allowed at a licensed healing center when each person consents individually and there are no more than four participants per facilitator. Numia holds healing center license NMHC-00022.
Do we journey at the same time, in the same room?
Yes. Same day, same private room, each with your own space and your own dose. Some couples stay close through the day; others go inward and come back together toward the end. Both are welcome, and your therapist, one licensed therapist for the two of you, holds the room either way.
Do we get the same dose?
Not necessarily. Each of you is screened and dosed individually, based on your own body, history, and intention, and your therapist talks this through with each of you during preparation.
What if one of us is screened out?
It happens, and we say so gently. Some medications and conditions ask for extra care, and a few mean the medicine is the wrong fit for now. The other partner can still go ahead with private sessions, or you can wait and come back together when the time is right.
Does it have to be a romantic partner?
No. The Couples Protocol is for any two people with a real bond: partners, close friends, a parent and an adult child, or siblings. The shape of the days is the same, one therapist holds you both, and the first step is the same 15-minute consultation. If either of you already sees a therapist, we are glad to coordinate with them around integration.
Is this a good idea if we are in a rough patch?
It depends on the season you are in. A shared journey asks both of you to want it for yourselves, and to be willing to be seen by each other in a vulnerable state. If the relationship is in crisis, or one of you is being brought along, we will say so on the call and help you find a better next step, together or separately.
What does the Couples Protocol cost?
$6,000 per couple, all sessions and medicine included; two private protocols would come to $7,600. Everything is billed before your journey, so there is nothing to pay on the day itself. Travel to Denver is the one cost that stays with you. Full details are on our pricing page.
