    Is psilocybin safe?

Yes. When sourced responsibly and used within the right setting and with proper guidance, through a legal, structured protocol, psilocybin is considered safe. At Numia, each client’s history and individual profile are carefully reviewed to help ensure safety throughout the process.

  • 2.

What does the law currently allow?

In Colorado, psilocybin is legal for personal use and for supported experiences within licensed healing centers. At Numia, clients purchase the medicine onsite just before their session, in compliance with state guidelines. Therapists and facilitators are trained to uphold legal and ethical standards, including specific boundaries around physical touch. For example, hand or foot holding is allowed with consent, while hugs and other forms of physical contact are not permitted during sessions. The entire therapeutic process—from intake to integration—follows regulated protocols designed to ensure client safety and informed choice.

  • 3.

How do I know if I’m eligible for psilocybin-assisted therapy?

Eligibility is assessed during an initial 20-minute consultation. Psilocybin is not recommended for individuals with a history of psychosis or are currently taking certain medications, which we screen for early in the process.

  • 4.

    Are there any contraindications?

Yes. Psilocybin is contraindicated for individuals with a personal or family history of psychosis, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder. It may also pose risks for those currently taking medications such as lithium. These substances can interact with psilocybin in ways that increase the chance of adverse reactions, including psychological destabilization. That’s why our intake and screening process includes a thorough review of your medical and psychiatric history. When necessary, we consult with medical professionals to ensure that this work is appropriate and safe for you.

How is dosing approached at Numia?

This conversation begins during the preparation phase. At Numia, participants may take a full dose at the start or they may begin with an initial dose, then decide about an hour into their journey to take a booster. This approach supports safety, personalization, and responsiveness to the individual experience.

  • 6.

    How long does psilocybin last?

The primary effects usually last between four and six hours, depending on the dose and the individual’s response.

  • 7.

    Are there any risks?

Psilocybin is generally safe in a supported setting, but it can bring up intense emotional material. That’s why preparation, therapeutic support, and careful screening are key parts of the process. When held properly, the risks are minimal and manageable, and for many, the process is deeply clarifying and healing.

  • 8.

What is Numia’s approach to treatment?

Numia offers a therapeutic approach to psilocybin-assisted therapy. We are grounded in trauma-informed care and emotional reconnection. We also collaborate—when appropriate—with clients’ existing therapists to support ongoing psychological work.

  • 9.

    Does Numia sell mushrooms?

Psilocybin is not sold for standalone use. At Numia, it is offered strictly as part of a therapeutic protocol and only consumed onsite, under supervision. By law, clients complete the purchase separately, just before their session.

  • 10.

Can I use my phone during the session?

We ask clients to leave phones and personal items with the support staff. If in the room, phones should be turned off to preserve focus and emotional safety.

  • 11.

Can I leave in the middle of the session?

Leaving mid-session is strongly discouraged unless there is a safety concern. Your therapist will support you if anything feels overwhelming, and we’re prepared to help you stay grounded throughout.

  • 12.

Can I eat during the session?

Food is not offered during the session; however hunger is rarely felt under the medicine. Clients are encouraged to have a very light breakfast, and we provide water and light snacks afterward if needed.

  • 13.

Can I drive to and from my session?

No. Colorado law prohibits driving while impaired by any psychoactive substance. Even if you feel “clear,” the effects may still be present and impair judgment or reaction time. For your safety—and to comply with legal guidelines—we require that clients arrange a ride both to and from the clinic on the day of their session. Many choose to be dropped off or use a rideshare service.

  • 14.

Do I need to follow a specific diet before my session?

No strict diet is required; however it is helpful to avoid alcohol and processed foods for the week leading into the session. We recommend abstaining from food the morning of the session, or eating lightly, and staying hydrated to support physical and emotional comfort during the experience.

"Creating a place where people can reconnect with themselves, with the world around them, and explore new paths is truly special to me. Being able to support them through it is a great privilege as a therapist."
